How Real-Time Seat Selection & Carting Works
VenuePilot utilizes real-time integration to mark seats as unavailable across active user sessions immediately upon carting.
What happens when a seat is added to a cart?
If this happens:
- Instant Reservation: As soon as a buyer clicks a seat on the map, the VenuePilot system instantly flags that seat as unavailable and communicates this directly to our central server.
- Real-Time Broadcast: The server immediately broadcasts the updated seat status across active user sessions so other shoppers see the ticket update to Unavailable in real time.
- Cart Timer: The seat remains locked to the buyer's session for a limited window, giving them time to complete their checkout without losing their spots.
Why map updates may vary slightly by user
While our real-time integrations are engineered for speed, a 100% instantaneous map update for every single shopper cannot be guaranteed. Variations in speed can occur due to factors outside the platform's control,including:- Local Network & Connectivity: Weak mobile coverage or public Wi-Fi signal delays.
- Device Performance: Processing power on older smartphones, tablets, or computers.
- Browser Configuration: Browser extensions, ad blockers, or outdated web browser versions.
- Geographic Location: Network latency between the user's location and our server endpoints.
Simultaneous Selection (Double-Carting)
In rare high-demand scenarios (such as an immediate high-volume ticket drop), two shoppers may click the exact same seat within the exact same millisecond before the map display refreshes. If this happens:
- Automatic Order Rejection: The system will reject the secondary buyer's attempt to complete the order for that seat during payment/checkout.
- System Safeguard: This safeguard prevents double-booking and cannot be disabled or altered in venue settings.
